"The land of mountains" . A road trip in this wonderful region of Russia. From the mountains to the old city of Derbent , on the road across the canyon and the valleys full of history.
5am at 2500m of altitude and one of the most beautiful sunrises. Surrounded by wild horses and vultures flying over my head. In the distance, mountains who pass over 5000m, with the sun coming the shadows of mountains are moving. A pure beauty.
Time to go back and take a ride with Dalgat.
Dalgat is from Gunib, he has a moustache, blue eyes like water from the lakes of Dagestan, a broken finger and a minibus with a mileage of more than 700 000 km. He is one of the kindest people I have ever seen.

During hours on the road talking about everything, listening his stories about how he was a shepherd in his youth, talking about Alexandre Dumas or french actors like Belmondo. After, a short masterclass of Avar language, showing some photos from his phone, discussing the history of Dagestan and a lot of other topics
Dagestan is not only full of beautiful landscapes but it’s also a place with very kind and interesting people with great culture.
Derbent, one of the oldest city in Russia.
Imagine walking in the old part of the city with thousands years of history. Visiting the local market, catching the smell of spicies, fish and meat. Listening to the call to public prayer across the city, recited by a muezzin.
